What I do with your details

Short version: I only use your details to reply to you, do work you've asked for, and send the occasional email if you've joined the mailing list. I don't sell them, share them for marketing, or track you round the internet.
Who I am
Hawthorn Tiger is run by George Sweetland, a sole trader based in Thanet, Kent. I'm responsible for the personal information described here. You can reach me at hello@hawthorntiger.co.uk or on 07801 213 439.
The mailing list
If you sign up, I keep:
- your email address
- your name, if you give it
- where you signed up (the website, a keyring or a business card) and when
I use these to send occasional emails about Hawthorn Tiger: new work, offers and useful tips for getting found online. I only email you because you asked me to, so the legal basis is your consent.
Every email has an unsubscribe link. Click it, or reply and ask, and you're off the list straight away. I keep a note that you unsubscribed so you're never added back by mistake. If you'd rather I deleted your details completely, just ask.
When you get in touch
If you ring, WhatsApp, email or use the form on this site, I'll have whatever you send me: usually your name, business, phone number or email, and details of what you need. I use that to reply, give you a price and, if you go ahead, build and look after your website. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in answering enquiries and, once we agree to work together, carrying out our contract.
The form on this site doesn't store anything itself. It opens WhatsApp or your email app with your message filled in, and you choose whether to send it.
How long I keep things
- Mailing list: until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete you.
- Enquiries that go nowhere: up to two years, in case you come back to me.
- Clients: for as long as I'm working for you, then invoices and payment records for six years, because HMRC requires it.
Who else handles your details
I don't sell or share your details with anyone for their own marketing. A few services store or carry them for me:
- Cloudflare hosts this website and stores the mailing list.
- Google (Gmail) handles my email.
- WhatsApp carries messages if you contact me that way.
- Google Fonts supplies the lettering on this site, so your browser connects to Google when the page loads.
Some of these companies may process data outside the UK. When they do, they use the legal safeguards UK law requires.
Cookies
This site doesn't use advertising or tracking cookies.
Your rights
You can ask me for a copy of what I hold about you, ask me to correct it or delete it, object to me using it, or withdraw your consent at any time. Email hello@hawthorntiger.co.uk and I'll sort it within a month, usually much sooner.
If you're not happy with how I've handled your information, please tell me first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
